Orlistat medicine use for lose weight - daynighthealthcare

Orlistat is used with an individualized low-calorie, low-fat diet and exercise program to lose weight. It works by blocking chemicals called enzymes in your stomach which digest fat. Nearly a one third of the fat that you eat is blocked by orlistat. The undigested fat is not absorbed into your body, and is passed out with your faeces (stools). The recommended dose of the prescription version for weight loss or weight maintenance in adults and older is orlistat 120 mg capsules, taken with each meal that contains fat, up to three times daily.

The medication can decrease the absorption of certain vitamins from the diet. Therefore, it is recommended that you take a multivitamin once in a day, at least two hours before or after orlistat. Orlistat is in a class of medications called lipase inhibitors. It works by preventing some of the fat in foods eaten from being absorbed in the intestines. This unabsorbed fat is then removed from the body in the stool. It is best if you take this tablet with the meal, but you can take it up to an hour after the meal, if necessary. If you do not take meal, or if you eat a meal which is without fat, you should also skip your dose.
